Originally built in 1974 and recently renovated, the Hotel Birger Jar is located in Stockholm's 'golden triangle' between Stureplan, Hötorget and Jarlaplan. The architects and designers took inspiration from Sweden's natural landscape and traditional red-painted houses and translated it into a modern design hotel. The 235 guestrooms are all individually designed and combine sleek contemporary furniture with traditional Swedish décor. All include televisions, safes and high-speed Internet connections.
Health conscious guests can enjoy the hotel fitness center and sauna, whilst those on business can make use of the hotel's business center with conference and meeting rooms. At the hotel restaurant, Birgers Mastal, guests can enjoy a wide range of Swedish and international cuisine in a contemporary design setting with low-level lighting and wooden floors. Those guests after a lighter snack or drink will find a selection of sandwiches, cakes, coffee and cocktails in the Lobby Bar, decorated in vibrant red tones with bright red contemporary design armchairs and black tables. After a complimentary buffet breakfast in the morning, guests can ask the concierge for any sightseeing assistance. Nearby attractions include the old town, Royal Palace and Vasa Museum, all within 1.5 kilometers. For those guests traveling by train, Central Station is 900 meters from the hotel; for those traveling by air, Stockholm Arlanda Airport is 42 kilometers away and the journey to the city center takes approximately 30 minutes.
The airport has three railway stations: one for long- distance destinations and two for frequent express trains to Stockholm. Taxis run from directly outside the terminals. When taking a taxi, passengers should speak to a taxi coordinator, found outside the terminal building. There are bus stations outside terminals 2, 4 and 5.
